Daniel 3
1 રાજા નબૂખાદનેસ્સારે સોનાનું એક પૂતળું ઘડાવીને બાબિલના પ્રાંતમાં આવેલા દૂરાના મેદાનમાં તેની સ્થાપના કરાવી. એ સાઠ હાથ ઊંચો અને છ હાથ પહોળુ હતુ.
2 ત્યારબાદ તેણે સર્વ સરદારોને, રાજયપાલોને, કપ્તાનોને, ન્યાયાધીશોને, ખજાનચીઓને, સલાહકારોને, ભંડારીઓને અને અન્ય અધિકારીઓને આ પૂતળાની સ્થાપન વિધિમાં હાજર રહેવા માટે સંદેશા મોકલ્યાઁ.
3 તેઓ બધા નબૂખાદનેસ્સાર રાજાએ જે પ્રતિમાની સ્થાપના કરી હતી તેની પ્રાણપ્રતિષ્ઠા કરવા માટે ભેગા થયા. અને તેઓ પ્રતિમા સમક્ષ ઊભા રહ્યા.
4 ચોકીદારે મોટે અવાજે કહ્યું, “હે સર્વ દેશના જાતિના અને ભાષાઓના લોકો, આ હુકમ રાજાનો છે
5 કે, જેવો તમે રણશિંગુ, શરણાઇ, વીણા, સિતાર, સારંગી વગેરે સર્વ પ્રકારના વાજિંત્રોનો અવાજ સાંભળો કે, તમારે નીચે નમીને પૂજા કરવી.
6 જે કોઇ નીચે નમીને પૂજા નહિ કરે તેને તરત જ બળબળતા અગ્નિની ભઠ્ઠીમાં નાખવામાં આવશે.”
7 આથી રણશિંગુ, શરણાઇ, વીણા, સિતાર, સારંગી વગેરે વાજિંત્રોનો નાદ સાંભળતા જ જુદી જુદી પ્રજાઓના અને જુદી જુદી ભાષા બોલનારા બધા લોકોએ રાજા નબૂખાદનેસ્સારે સ્થાપન કરેલી સોનાના પૂતળાની સાષ્ટાંગ નમસ્કાર કરીને પૂજા કરી.
8 તે વખતે કેટલાક અધિકારીઓએ રાજાની પાસે આવીને યહૂદીઓ ઉપર આરોપ મૂક્યું.
9 તેઓએ રાજા નબૂખાદનેસ્સારને કહ્યું, “હે રાજા, સદા જીવતા રહો.”
10 નામદાર, આપે એવી આજ્ઞા કરી છે કે, જો કોઇ માણસ રણશિંગુ, શરણાઇ, વીણા, સિતાર, સારંગી, વગેરે વાજિંત્રોનો નાદ સાંભળે, તેણે સોનાની પ્રતિમાને સાષ્ટાંગ નમસ્કાર કરી પૂજા કરવી,
11 અને તમારા કહ્યાં મુજબ જે કોઇ માણસ સોનાના પૂતળાની નીચે નમીને પૂજા ન કરે, તો તેને બળબળતા અગ્નિની ભઠ્ઠીમાં નાખવો.
12 આપે શાદ્રાખ, મેશાખ અને અબેદનગો નામના યહૂદીઓને બાબિલ પ્રાંતનો વહીવટ સોંપ્યો છે. નામદાર, એ માણસોએ આપની સુચનાઓનો ભંગ કર્યો છે. તેઓ તમારા દેવની સેવા કરતા નથી કે, તમે બનાવેલા સોનાના પૂતળાની નીચે વળીને પૂજા કરતા નથી.”
13 ત્યારે રાજા નબૂખાદનેસ્સાર ખૂબ રોષે ભરાયો અને તેણે શાદ્રાખ, મેશાખ અને અબેદનગોને પોતાની આગળ લાવવાનો હુકમ કર્યો. તેમને રાજા સમક્ષ હાજર કરવામાં આવ્યા.
14 નબૂખાદનેસ્સારે તેમને કહ્યું, “હે શાદ્રાખ, મેશાખ અને અબેદનગો, એ વાત સાચી છે કે, તમે મારા દેવોની પૂજા કરતાં નથી કે, મેં સ્થાપન કરેલી સોનાની પ્રતિમાની પૂજા કરતા નથી?
15 પરંતુ હું એક વધુ તક તમને આપીશ. જ્યારે વાજિંત્રોમાં રણશિંગુ, શરણાઇ, વીણા, સિતાર, સારંગી વગેરે વાગે ત્યારે સાષ્ટાંગ દંડવત પ્રણામ કરીને તમે પૂજા કરવા તૈયાર થશો તો સારી વાત છે. પણ જો તમે પૂજા નહિ કરો તો તમને તત્કાળ બળબળતા અગ્નિની ભઠ્ઠીમાં નાખવામાં આવશે. મારા હાથમાંથી કયા દેવ તમને બચાવશે?”
16 શાદ્રાખ, મેશાખ અને અબેદનગોએ જવાબ આપ્યો, “હે નબૂખાદનેસ્સાર રાજા, અમારું શું થશે એની અમે ચિંતા કરતા નથી.
17 જે દેવની અમે સેવા કરીએ છીએ તે અમને બળતા અગ્નિની ભઠ્ઠીમાંથી અને આપના હાથમાંથી ઉગારવાને શકિતમાન છે. તે અમને બચાવવા માટે શકિતમાન છે.
18 અને જો નહિ ઉગારે તો પણ, આપ નામદાર જાણી લેજો કે, અમે નથી તો આપના દેવોની સેવા કરવાના કે, નથી આપે સ્થાપિત કરેલી સોનાની મૂર્તિની પૂજા કરવાના.”
19 આ સાંભળીને રાજા નબૂખાદનેસ્સારે શાદ્રાખ, મેશાખ અને અબેદનગો ઉપર ક્રોધે ભરાયો અને તેનો ચહેરો લાલચોળ થઇ ગયો. તેણે હુકમ કર્યો, “ભઠ્ઠીને હંમેશા ગરમ કરવામાં આવે તે કરતાં સાતગણી વધારે ગરમ કરો.”
20 અને તેણે પોતાના લશ્કરના કેટલાક બળવાનમાં બળવાન માણસોને શાદ્રાખ, મેશાખ અને અબેદનગોને બાંધીને બળબળતા અગ્નિની ભઠ્ઠીમાં નાખવાનો હુકમ કર્યો.
21 તેથી તેઓએ પહેરણ, પાઘડી અને બીજા વસ્ત્રો સાથે તેઓને દોરડાં વડે સખત બાંધ્યાં અને અગ્નિની ભઠ્ઠીમાં નાખી દીધા.
22 રાજાએ ગુસ્સામાં ભઠ્ઠીને ખૂબજ તપાવવાનો હુકમ કર્યો હતો. અગ્નિની જવાળાઓ ભઠ્ઠીની બહાર નીકળતી હતી. તેથી તેઓને ભઠ્ઠીમાં નાખનાર સૈનિકો પોતે ભસ્મ થઇ ગયા.
23 પછી શાદ્રાખ, મેશાખ અને અબેદનગો બંધાયેલી હાલતમાં જ ભભૂકતી જવાળામાં પડ્યાં.
24 નબૂખાદનેસ્સાર રાજા આ જોઇ આશ્ચર્ય પામીને એકદમ ઊભો થઇ ગયો અને પોતાના દરબારીઓને પૂછયું, “શું તમે ત્રણ જણને બાંધીને અગ્નિની ભઠ્ઠીમાં નાખ્યાં નહોતાં?”દરબારીઓએ કહ્યું “હા, એમજ કર્યુ હતું, નામદાર.”
25 નબૂખાદનેસ્સારે બૂમ પાડી. “અરે જુઓ, પણ હું તો ચાર માણસોને છૂટા થઇને આગમાં સાજાસમા ફરતાં જોઉં છું, અને પેલો ચોથો માણસ દેવપુત્ર જેવો દેખાય છે.”
26 પછી નબૂખાદનેસ્સારે સળગતી ભઠ્ઠીની પાસે જઇને પેલા માણસોને કહ્યું, “શાદ્રાખ, મેશાખ અને અબેદનગો, સૌથી મહાન પરાત્પર દેવના સેવકો, બહાર આવો, અહીં આવો!”આ સાંભળીને તેઓ તરત જ અગ્નિમાંથી બહાર આવ્યા.
27 અને પ્રશાસકો, સૂબાઓ, નાયબ સૂબાઓ અને રાજાના દરબારીઓ તેમની આસપાસ ભેગા થઇ ગયા. અને તેમણે જોયું કે, તેમના શરીર ઉપર અગ્નિની કોઇ અસર થઇ નહોતી. તેમના માથાના વાળ પણ બળ્યા નહોતા, તેમના વસ્ત્રોને અગ્નિ અડ્યો જ નહોતો અને તેમના શરીરમાંથી બળ્યાની ગંધ પણ આવતી નહોતી.
28 ત્યારબાદ નબૂખાદનેસ્સારે કહ્યું, “શાદ્રાખ, મેશાખ અને અબેદનગોના દેવનો જય હો! તેણે પોતાના દૂતને મોકલીને પોતાના ભકતોને ઉગારી લીધા છે, જેમણે એને ભરોસે રાજાની આજ્ઞાનો ભંગ કર્યો હતો અને પોતાના દેવ સિવાય બીજા કોઇપણ દેવની સેવા કે, પૂજા કરવાને બદલે મરવાનું પસંદ કર્યું હતું. પરંતુ દેવે તેઓનો ઉદ્ધાર કર્યો છે.
29 તેથી હું એવી આજ્ઞા કરું છું, કે, કોઇપણ પ્રજાનો કે, કોઇપણ ભાષા બોલનારો કોઇપણ માણસ મારા કાયદા નિયમનું ઉલ્લંધન કરનારને અને શાદ્રાખ, મેશાખ અને અબેદનગોના દેવની નિંદા કરનારના ટુકડે ટુકડા કરી દેવામાં આવશે. અને તેનું ઘર તોડીને ઢગલો કરી નાખવામાં આવશે, કારણ, માણસોને આ રીતે ઉગારી શકે એવો બીજો કોઇ દેવ નથી.”
30 ત્યારબાદ રાજાએ શાદ્રાખ, મેશાખ અને અબેદનગોને વધારે ઊંચું સ્થાન આપ્યું, તેથી તેઓ બાબિલ પ્રાંતમાં પુષ્કળ સમૃદ્ધ થયાં.
1 Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.
2 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the princes, the governors, and the captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellers, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
3 Then the princes, the governors, and captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellers, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, were gathered together unto the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
4 Then an herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages,
5 That at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up:
6 And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
7 Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and all kinds of musick, all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
8 Wherefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews.
9 They spake and said to the king Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live for ever.
10 Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, shall fall down and worship the golden image:
11 And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth, that he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
12 There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
13 Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. Then they brought these men before the king.
14 Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?
15 Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?
16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.
17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.
18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
19 Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated.
20 And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.
21 Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
22 Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego.
23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellers, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.
25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, came forth of the midst of the fire.
27 And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king’s counsellers, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them.
28 Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.
29 Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.
30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, in the province of Babylon.
1 Then spake Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thine household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for the Lord hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years.
2 And the woman arose, and did after the saying of the man of God: and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years.
3 And it came to pass at the seven years’ end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines: and she went forth to cry unto the king for her house and for her land.
4 And the king talked with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, all the great things that Elisha hath done.
5 And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored a dead body to life, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.
6 And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed unto her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.
7 And Elisha came to Damascus; and Ben-hadad the king of Syria was sick; and it was told him, saying, The man of God is come hither.
8 And the king said unto Hazael, Take a present in thine hand, and go, meet the man of God, and inquire of the Lord by him, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?
9 So Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels’ burden, and came and stood before him, and said, Thy son Ben-hadad king of Syria hath sent me to thee, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?
10 And Elisha said unto him, Go, say unto him, Thou mayest certainly recover: howbeit the Lord hath shewed me that he shall surely die.
11 And he settled his countenance stedfastly, until he was ashamed: and the man of God wept.
12 And Hazael said, Why weepeth my lord? And he answered, Because I know the evil that thou wilt do unto the children of Israel: their strong holds wilt thou set on fire, and their young men wilt thou slay with the sword, and wilt dash their children, and rip up their women with child.
13 And Hazael said, But what, is thy servant a dog, that he should do this great thing? And Elisha answered, The Lord hath shewed me that thou shalt be king over Syria.
14 So he departed from Elisha, and came to his master; who said to him, What said Elisha to thee? And he answered, He told me that thou shouldest surely recover.
15 And it came to pass on the morrow, that he took a thick cloth, and dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died: and Hazael reigned in his stead.
16 And in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being then king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah began to reign.
17 Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.
18 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: for the daughter of Ahab was his wife: and he did evil in the sight of the Lord.
19 Yet the Lord would not destroy Judah for David his servant’s sake, as he promised him to give him alway a light, and to his children.
20 In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.
21 So Joram went over to Zair, and all the chariots with him: and he rose by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots: and the people fled into their tents.
22 Yet Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time.
23 And the rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
24 And Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.
25 In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel did Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah begin to reign.
26 Two and twenty years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri king of Israel.
27 And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did evil in the sight of the Lord, as did the house of Ahab: for he was the son in law of the house of Ahab.
28 And he went with Joram the son of Ahab to the war against Hazael king of Syria in Ramoth-gilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram.
29 And king Joram went back to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.
