Acts 22:24
પછી સરદારે સૈનિકોને પાઉલને લશ્કરના મકાનમાં લઈ જવા કહ્યું. તેણે પાઉલને મારવા માટે સૈનિકોને કહ્યું. તે પાઉલ પાસે કહેવડાવવા ઈચ્છતો હતો કે લોકો શા માટે આમ તેની વિરૂદ્ધ બૂમો પાડતા હતા.

લોકો પાઉલની હત્યા કરવાનો પ્રયત્ન કરતા હતા. યરૂશાલેમમાં રોમન સૈન્યના સૂબેદારે સાંભળ્યું કે સમગ્ર શહેરમાં મુશ્કેલી ઊભી થઈ છે.

તેથી સૈનિકો પાઉલને બાંધીને મારવાની તૈયારી કરતા હતા. પણ પાઉલે લશ્કરી સૂબેદારને કહ્યું, “શું તમને જે દોષિત સાબિત થયેલ નથી તે રોમન નાગરિકને મારવાનો અધીકાર છે?”

તે યહૂદિઓએ આ માણસને (પાઉલ) પકડ્યો હતો અને તેઓએ તેને મારી નાખવાની યોજના કરી હતી. પરંતુ મેં સાંભળ્યું છે કે તે એક રોમન નાગરિક છે, તેથી હું મારા સૈનિકો સાથે ગયો અને તેને છોડાવ્યો.
