દાઉદે પોતાના મનમાં વિચાર કર્યો, “કોઈ દિવસ શાઉલ મને માંરી નાખશે, એટલે હું પલિસ્તીઓના પ્રદેશમાં નાસી જાઉં એ જ ઉત્તમ છે. તો શાઉલ માંરી આશા છોડી દેશે; અને આખા ઇસ્રાએલમાં માંરી શોધ કરવાનું માંડી વાળશે અને હું સુરક્ષિત રહી શકીશ.”
