And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on you henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.

இயேசு சாலையோரம் அத்திமரம் ஒன்றைக் கண்டார். அத்திப்பழங்களை உண்பதற்காக அம்மரத்தின் அருகில் சென்றார். ஆனால், மரத்தில் பழம் எதுவும் இல்லை. வெறும் இலைகள் மட்டுமே இருந்தன. எனவே இயேசு மரத்தை நோக்கி, “இனி ஒருபொழுதும் உன்னிடம் பழம் உண்டாகாது” என்று கூறினார். உடனே அம்மரம் உலர்ந்து பட்டுப்போனது.
