And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her.

அப்பொழுது ராஜா அதிக துக்கமடைந்தான்; ஆனாலும், வாக்குக் கொடுத்ததினாலும், அவனோடுகூட பந்தியில் இருந்தவர்களுக்காகவும், அவள் கேட்டுக்கொண்டதை மறுக்க அவனுக்கு மனம் இல்லாமல்;

ஏரோது மன்னன் இதைக்கேட்டு வருத்தப்பட்டான். ஆனால் அவள் விரும்பும் எதையும் தந்துவிடுவதாக ஏற்கெனவே அவளிடம் ஆணையிட்டு சத்தியம் செய்துவிட்டான். மன்னனோடு உணவருந்திக் கொண்டிருந்த பெரிய மனிதர்களும் அவனது ஆணையை அறிந்திருந்தனர். ஆகையால் அவனால் அப்பெண்ணின் வேண்டுகோளை மறுக்கமுடியவில்லை.
