Whereas Edom says, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus says the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD has indignation for ever.

ஏதோமியர்கள்: நாம் ஒடுக்கப்பட்டோம்: ஆனாலும் பாழானவைகளைத் திரும்பக் கட்டுவோம் என்று சொல்லுகிறார்கள்; அதற்குக் கர்த்தர்: அவர்கள் கட்டுவார்கள், நான் இடிப்பேன், அவர்கள் துன்மார்க்கத்தின் எல்லையென்றும், என்றைக்கும் கர்த்தருடைய கோபத்திற்குள்ளான மக்களென்றும் சொல்லப்படுவார்கள் என்கிறார்.

ஏதோமின் ஜனங்கள், “நாங்கள் அழிக்கப்பட்டோம். ஆனால் நாங்கள் திரும்பிப்போய் மீண்டும் எங்கள் நகரங்களைக் கட்டுவோம்” என்று சொல்லலாம். ஆனால் சர்வ வல்லமையுள்ள கர்த்தர் கூறுகிறார்: “அவர்கள் மீண்டும் அந்நகரங்களைக் கட்டினால் பிறகு நான் மீண்டும் அவைகளை அழிப்பேன்!” எனவே ஜனங்கள் ஏதோமை ஒரு கேட்டின் நாடு என்கின்றனர். கர்த்தர் என்றென்றும் வெறுக்கும் ஒரு தேசம்.
