The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank you, that I am not as other men are, extortionists, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

பரிசேயன் நின்று: தேவனே! நான் கொள்ளைக்காரர்கள், அநியாயக்காரர்கள், விபசாரக்காரர்கள் ஆகிய மற்ற மனிதர்களைப்போலவும், இந்த வரி வசூலிப்பவனைப்போலவும் இராததினால் உமக்கு நன்றி செலுத்துகிறேன்.

வரி வசூலிப்பவனுக்குச் சற்று தொலைவில் பரிசேயன் தனிமையாக நின்று கொண்டான். அவன், ‘தேவனே, நான் மற்ற மக்களைப் போன்று தீயவனாக இல்லாதிருப்பதால் உங்களுக்கு நன்றி சொல்கிறேன். திருடுகிற, ஏமாற்றுகிற, தீய ஒழுக்கத்தில் ஈடுபடுகிற மக்களைப் போன்றவன் அல்லன் நான். இந்த வரி வசூலிப்பவனைக் காட்டிலும் நான் நல்லவனாக இருப்பதால் உங்களுக்கு நன்றி சொல்கிறேன்.
