And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and strike Ai; and make not all the people to labour thither; for they are but few.

யோசுவாவிடம் திரும்பிவந்து, அவனை நோக்கி: மக்கள் எல்லோரும் போகவேண்டியதில்லை; ஏறக்குறைய இரண்டாயிரம் மூவாயிரம்பேர் போய், ஆயியை முறியடிக்கலாம்; எல்லா மக்களையும் அங்கே போகும்படி வருத்தப்படுத்தவேண்டியதில்லை; அவர்கள் கொஞ்சம்பேர்தான் என்றார்கள்.

பின்னர் அவர்கள் யோசுவாவிடம் திரும்பி வந்து, “ஆயீ ஒரு பலவீனமான பகுதி. அவ்விடத்தை தோற்கடிக்க நம் ஜனங்கள் அனைவரும் தேவையில்லை. 2,000 அல்லது 3,000 ஆட்களை அங்கு போர்செய்ய அனுப்புங்கள். படை முழுவதையும் பயன்படுத்த வேண்டியிராது. நம்மை எதிர்த்துப் போர் செய்வதற்குச் சில மனிதர்களே உள்ளனர்” என்றார்கள்.
