They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how says you, All of you shall be made free?

அவர்கள் அவருக்கு மறுமொழியாக: நாங்கள் ஆபிரகாமின் சந்ததியாக இருக்கிறோம், நாங்கள் ஒருபோதும் ஒருவனுக்கும் அடிமைகளாக இருக்கவில்லை; விடுதலையாவீர்கள் என்று நீர் எப்படிச் சொல்லுகிறீர் என்றார்கள்.

“நாங்கள் ஆபிரகாமின் மக்கள். நாங்கள் ஒருபோதும் அடிமைகளாய் இருந்ததில்லை. ஆகவே நாங்கள் விடுதலை பெறுவோம் என்று ஏன் சொல்கிறீர்?” என்று யூதர்கள் கேட்டனர்.

யூதர்கள் அவரைப் பார்த்து,” ‘உங்களுக்கு விடுதலை கிடைக்கும்’ என நீர் எப்படிச் சொல்லலாம்? நாங்கள் யாருக்கும் ஒருபோதும் அடிமைகளாய் இருந்ததில்லை. நாங்கள் ஆபிரகாமின் வழிமரபினர் ஆயிற்றே!” என்றார்கள்.
