Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to you?

ஆகவே, அந்தச் சீடன் மரிப்பதில்லை என்கிற பேச்சு சகோதரர்களுக்குள்ளே பரவியது. ஆனாலும், அவன் மரிப்பதில்லை என்று இயேசு சொல்லாமல், நான் வரும்வரைக்கும் இவன் இருக்க எனக்கு விருப்பமானால் உனக்கென்ன என்று சொன்னார்.

ஆகையால் சீஷர்களிடம் ஒரு கதை பரவிற்று. அதாவது இயேசு அன்பாயிருக்கும் அந்த சீஷன் மரணம் அடைவது இல்லை என்று சீஷர்கள் பேசிக்கொண்டனர். ஆனால் அவன் மரணம் அடைவதில்லை என்று இயேசு கூறவில்லை. அவர் “நான் வரும்வரைக்கும் இவன் இருக்க எனக்கு விருப்பம். அதைப்பற்றி நீ கவலைப்பட வேண்டாம்” என்றே கூறினார்.
