John 18:31
Then said Pilate unto them, Take all of you him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:

அப்பொழுது பிலாத்து அவர்களைப் பார்த்து: இவனை நீங்களே கொண்டுபோய், உங்களுடைய நியாயப்பிரமாணத்தின்படி தீர்ப்பு செய்யுங்கள் என்றான். அதற்கு யூதர்கள்: ஒருவனையும் மரணத்திற்கு ஒப்புக்கொடுக்க எங்களுக்கு அதிகாரமில்லை என்றார்கள்.

பிலாத்து யூதர்களிடம், “யூதர்களாகிய நீங்கள் இவனை அழைத்துக்கொண்டு போய் உங்கள் விதி முறைகளின்படி நியாயம் தீருங்கள்” என்றான். அதற்கு யூதர்கள், “எவரையும் மரண தண்டனைக்குட்படுத்த எங்களுக்கு அதிகாரமில்லையே” என்றனர்.
