For I heard the defaming of many, fear on every side. Report, say they, and we will report it. All my familiars watched for my halting, saying, Possibly he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.

அநேகர் சொல்லும் அவதூறைக் கேட்டேன், பயம் சூழ்ந்திருந்தது; அறிவியுங்கள், அப்பொழுது நாங்கள் அதை அறிவிப்போம் என்கிறார்கள்; என்னுடன் சமாதானமாயிருந்த அனைவரும் நான் தவறிவிழும்வரை காத்திருந்து: ஒருவேளை இணங்குவான், அப்பொழுது அவனை மேற்கொண்டு, அவனில் கோபத்தைத் தீர்த்துக்கொள்வோம் என்கிறார்கள்.

ஜனங்கள் எனக்கு எதிராக முணுமுணுப்பதை நான் கேட்கிறேன். எங்கெங்கும் என்னைப் பயப்படுத்தும் செய்தியைக் கேட்கிறேன். என் நண்பர்களும் கூட, “அவனைப்பற்றி அதிகாரிகளிடம் புகார் செய்வோம்” என கூறிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள். ஜனங்கள் நான் தவறு செய்வேன் என்று காத்திருக்கிறார்கள். அவர்கள், “எங்களைப் பொய் சொல்லவிடுங்கள். அவன் தீயவற்றைச் செய்தான் என்று சொல்லவிடுங்கள். நாங்கள் எரேமியாவிடம் தந்திரம்செய்ய முடியும். பிறகு அவனைப் பெறுவோம். இறுதியாக நாங்கள் அவனைத் தொலைத்து ஒழிப்போம். பிறகு அவனை இறுகப்பிடிப்போம். அவன் மேலுள்ள வஞ்சத்தை தீர்த்துக்கொள்வோம்” என்றார்கள்.
