Jeremiah 18:18
Then said they, Come and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us strike him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.

அதற்கு அவர்கள்: எரேமியாவுக்கு விரோதமாக ஆலோசனை செய்வோம் வாருங்கள்; ஆசாரியரிடத்தில் வேதமும், ஞானிகளிடத்தில் ஆலோசனையும், தீர்க்கதரிசிகளிடத்தில் வசனமும் ஒழிந்துபோவதில்லை. இவன் வார்த்தைகளை நாம் கவனிக்காமல், இவனை தீயவார்த்தைகளால் அவமாக்கிப்போடுவோம் வாருங்கள் என்றார்கள்.

பிறகு, எரேமியாவின் பகைவர்கள் சொன்னார்கள், “வாருங்கள் எரேமியாவிற்கு எதிராகத் திட்டங்கள் தீட்ட எங்களை அனுமதியுங்கள். ஆசாரியரால் இயற்றப்படும் சட்டம் பற்றிய போதனைகள் தொலைந்து போகாது. ஞானமுள்ள மனிதரின் ஆலோசனைகள் நம்மோடு கூட இருக்கும். தீர்க்கதரிசிகளின் வார்த்தைகளை நாம் இன்னும் வைத்திருப்போம். எனவே அவனைப்பற்றிய பொய் சொல்ல எங்களை விடுங்கள். அது அவனை அழிக்கும். அவன் சொல்லுகிற எதையும் நாங்கள் கவனிக்கமாட்டோம்.”
