James 1:26
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridles not his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

உங்களில் ஒருவன் தன் நாக்கை அடக்காமல், தன் இருதயத்தை ஏமாற்றி, தன்னை தேவபக்தியுள்ளவனென்று நினைத்தால் அவனுடைய தேவபக்தி வீணாயிருக்கும்.

தெய்வ பக்தி உள்ளவன் என ஒருவன் தன்னைப்பற்றி எண்ணிக்கொள்ளலாம். ஆனால் தன் நாக்கை அவன் அடக்கிக்கொள்ளவில்லையெனில், தன்னைத்தானே அவன் முட்டாளாக்கிக்கொள்கிறான். அவன் “தெய்வ பக்தி” பயனற்றதாக இருக்கின்றது.
