Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity built the temple unto the LORD God of Israel;

அப்பகுதியில் வாழ்ந்த பலரும், யூதா மற்றும் பென்யமீன் ஜனங்களுக்கு எதிராக இருந்தனர். அந்த விரோதிகள் அடிமைத்தனத்திலிருந்து திரும்ப வந்தவர்கள். இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருக்கு ஆலயம் கட்டுவதைக் கேள்விப்பட்டார்கள். எனவே அவர்கள் செருபாபேலிடமும், குடும்பத் தலைவர்களிடமும் வந்து, “நாங்கள் உங்களுக்கு ஆலயம் கட்ட உதவட்டுமா? நாங்களும் உங்களைப் போன்றவர்களே, உங்கள் தேவனிடம் உதவி வேண்டுகிறோம். அசீரியாவின் அரசனான எசரத்தோன் எங்களை இங்கு அழைத்து வந்த நாள் முதலாக நாங்கள் உங்கள் தேவனுக்குப் பலிகொடுத்து வருகிறோம்” என்றனர்.
