Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.

அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி: நான் உங்களுக்கு வானத்திலிருந்து அப்பம் வரச்செய்வேன்; மக்கள் போய், ஒவ்வொரு நாளுக்கு வேண்டியதை ஒவ்வொரு நாளிலும் சேர்த்துக்கொள்ளவேண்டும்; அதினால் அவர்கள் என்னுடைய கட்டளையின்படி நடப்பார்களோ நடக்கமாட்டார்களோ என்று அவர்களைச் சோதிப்பேன்.

அப்போது கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி, “நான் வானத்திலிருந்து உணவுப்பொருளை விழச் செய்வேன். நீங்கள் உண்பதற்கு அது உணவாகும். ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் ஜனங்கள் வெளியே போய் அவர்களுக்கு அந்தந்த நாளுக்கு மட்டும் தேவையான உணவைச் சேகரித்துவரவேண்டும். இப்படி நான் அவர்களைச் சோதித்து, என் ஆலோசனைகளைப் பின்பற்றுகிறார்களா என்று பார்ப்பேன்.
