Esther 9:22
As the days wherein the Jews rested from their enemies, and the month which was turned unto them from sorrow to joy, and from mourning into a good day: that they should make them days of feasting and joy, and of sending portions one to another, and gifts to the poor.

அந்நாட்களில் விருந்துண்டு சந்தோஷம்கொண்டாடவும், ஒருவருக்கொருவர் பரிசுகளை அனுப்பவும், எளியவர்களுக்குத் தானதர்மம் செய்யவும்வேண்டும் என்று திட்டம் செய்தான்.

யூதர்கள் அந்நாட்களைக் கொண்டாடினார்கள். ஏனென்றால், அந்நாட்களில் அவர்கள் தம் பகைவர்களை அழித்தனர். அம்மாதத்தில் அவர்களின் துயரமெல்லாம் மகிழ்ச்சியாக மாறியதால் அம்மாதத்தைக் கொண்டாடினார்கள். இம்மாதத்தில் அவர்களது அழுகை மாறி குதூகலமாய் கொண்டாடும் மாதமாக மாறிற்று. மொர்தெகாய் அனைத்து யூதர்களுக்கும் கடிதம் எழுதினான். அவன் அவர்களிடம் அந்நாளை மகிழ்ச்சிகரமான விடுமுறைநாளாக கொண்டாடச் சொன்னான். அவர்கள் ஒருவருக்கொருவர் விருந்தும் அன்பளிப்பும் கொடுத்து, ஏழைகளுக்குப் பரிசு கொடுத்து அந்த நாளை கொண்டாடச் சொன்னான்.
