But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privately? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.

அதற்குப் பவுல்: ரோமராகிய எங்களை அவர்கள் நியாயம் விசாரிக்காமல், வெளிப்படையாக அடித்து, சிறைச்சாலையிலே போட்டார்கள்; இப்பொழுது இரகசியமாக எங்களை விடுதலை செய்கிறார்களோ? அப்படியல்ல, அவர்களே வந்து, எங்களை விடுதலைசெய்து வெளியே அனுப்பிவிடட்டும் என்றான்.

ஆனால் பவுல் வீரரை நோக்கி, “உங்கள் தலைவர்கள் எங்களை விசாரணை செய்யவில்லை. ஆனால் மக்கள் முன்பாக அவர்கள் எங்களை அடித்துச் சிறையில் அடைத்தார்கள். நாங்கள் ரோம மக்கள். எங்களுக்கு உரிமை உள்ளது. இப்போது தலைவர்கள் நாங்கள் இரகசியமாகப் போக வேண்டுமென விரும்புகிறார்கள். முடியாது, தலைவர்களே வந்து எங்களை வெளியேற்றட்டும்!” என்றான்.
