And seeing a fig tree far off having leaves, he came, if lest by any means he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.

அப்பொழுது இலைகள் உள்ள ஒரு அத்திமரத்தைத் தூரத்திலேப் பார்த்து, அதில் அத்திப்பழம் கிடைக்குமா? என்று பார்க்க வந்தார். அது அத்திப்பழக் காலமாக இல்லாததினால், அவர் மரத்தின் அருகில் வந்தபோது அதில் இலைகளைத்தவிர வேறொன்றையும் பார்க்கவில்லை.

இயேசு இலைகள் நிறைந்த அத்தி மரம் ஒன்றைப் பார்த்தார். அவர் அதனருகில் சென்று ஏதேனும் பழங்கள் உள்ளனவா என்று கவனித்தார். அதில் பழங்கள் ஏதுமில்லை. வெறும் இலைகளே இருந்தன. அது கனி கொடுப்பதற்கு உரிய சரியான காலம் இல்லை.
