Isaiah 58:5
Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? will you call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD?

மனிதன் தன் ஆத்துமாவை ஒடுக்குகிறதும், தலைவணங்கி நாணலைப்போல் சணல்ஆடையிலும் சாம்பலிலும் படுத்துக்கொள்ளுகிறதும், எனக்குப் பிரியமான உபவாச நாளாயிருக்குமோ? இதையா உபவாசமென்றும் கர்த்தருக்குப் பிரியமான நாளென்றும் சொல்வாய்?

அந்தச் சிறப்பான நாட்களில் சாப்பிடாமல் இருந்து ஜனங்கள் தம் உடலை வருத்திக் கொள்ளவேண்டும் என்று நான் விரும்புகிறேன் என்று நீங்கள் நினைக்கிறீர்களா?ஜனங்கள் சோகமாகத் தோற்றமளிப்பதை விரும்புகிறேன் என்று நினைக்கிறீர்களா?ஜனங்கள் வாடிய செடிகளைப்போன்று தலை குனிந்து துக்கத்துக்கான ஆடைகளை அணிந்துகொள்ள வேண்டும் என்று விரும்புகிறேன் என்று நினைக்கிறீர்களா? ஜனங்கள் தம் துக்கத்தைக் காட்ட சாம்பலில் உட்கார்ந்திருப்பதை நான் விரும்புகிறேன் என்று நினைக்கிறீர்களா? இதையே உங்கள் சிறப்பான உபவாச நாட்களில் நீங்கள் செய்கிறீர்கள். கர்த்தர் இதைத்தான் விரும்புகிறார் என்று நீங்கள் நினைக்கிறீர்களா?
