Esther 3:2
And all the king's servants, that were in the king's gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence.

ஆகையால் ராஜாவின் அரண்மனை வாசலில் இருக்கிற ராஜாவின் வேலைக்காரர்கள் எல்லோரும் ஆமானுக்கு முன்பாக முழங்காலிட்டு வணங்கிவந்தார்கள்; அவனுக்கு இப்படிச் செய்யவேண்டும் என்று ராஜா கட்டளையிட்டிருந்தான்; ஆனாலும் மொர்தெகாய் அவனுக்கு முன்பாக முழங்காலிடவுமில்லை, வணங்கவுமில்லை.

அரசனின் வாசலில் உள்ள அனைத்து அதிகாரிகளும், ஆமானுக்குப் பணிந்து வணங்கி மரியாதைச் செய்தனர். அவ்வாறுதான் செய்யவேண்டும் என்று அரசன் அவர்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டிருந்தான். ஆனால் மொர்தெகாய் அவனுக்குப் பணிந்து மரியாதை அளிக்க மறுத்துவிட்டான்.

ஆகையால் ராஜாவின் அரமனை வாசலிலிருக்கிற ராஜாவின் ஊழியக்காரரெல்லாரும் ஆமானை வணங்கி நமஸ்கரித்து வந்தார்கள்; அவனுக்கு இப்படிச் செய்யவேண்டும் என்று ராஜா கட்டளையிட்டிருந்தான்; ஆனாலும் மொர்தெகாய் அவனை வணங்கவுமில்லை, நமஸ்கரிக்கவுமில்லை.
