And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who has appointed your food and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse looking than the children which are of your sort? then shall all of you make me endanger my head to the king.

அதிகாரிகளின் தலைவன் தானியேலை நோக்கி: உங்களுக்கு உணவையும் பானத்தையும் குறித்திருக்கிற ராஜாவாகிய என் எஜமானுக்கு நான் பயப்படுகிறேன்; அவர் உங்களோடிருக்கிற வாலிபர்களின் முகங்களைப்பார்க்கிலும் உங்கள் முகங்கள் வாடிப்போனவைகளாக ஏன் காணப்படவேண்டும்? அதினால் ராஜா எனக்கு மரணதண்டனை கொடுப்பாரே என்றான்.

ஆனால் அஸ்பேனாஸ் தானியேலிடம், “நான் என் அரசரான எஜமானருக்குப் பயப்படுகிறேன். அரசர் இந்த உணவையும், திராட்சைரசத்தையும் உனக்குத் தரும்படி கட்டளையிட்டிருக்கிறார். நீ இந்த உணவை உண்ணாவிட்டால், பலவீனமுடையவனாகவும், நோயாளியாகவும் ஆவாய். நீ உன் வயதுள்ள மற்ற இளைஞர்களைவிட மோசமான நிலையில் இருப்பாய். அரசர் இதனைப் பார்த்து என் மீது கோபங்கொள்வார். அவர் என் தலையை வெட்டிவிடலாம், ஆதற்கு உனது தவறே காரணமாகும்” என்று சொன்னான்.
