2 Chronicles 28:23
For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which stroke him: and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.

எப்படியென்றால்: சீரியா ராஜாக்களின் தெய்வங்கள் அவர்களுக்குத் துணை செய்கிறதால், அவர்கள் எனக்கும் துணைசெய்ய அவர்களுக்கு பலியிடுவேன் என்று சொல்லி, தன்னைத் தோற்கடித்த தமஸ்குவின் தெய்வங்களுக்கு அவன் பலியிட்டான்; ஆனாலும் அது அவனும் இஸ்ரவேல் அனைத்தும் அழிவதற்கு காரணமானது.

தமஸ்கு ஜனங்கள் தொழுதுகொண்ட தெய்வங்களுக்கே இவன் பலிகளைக் கொடுத்து வந்தான் தமஸ்கு ஜனங்கள் ஆகாஸைத் தோற்கடித்தனர். அதனால் ஆகாஸ், “ஆராம் ஜனங்களுக்கு அவர்கள் தொழுதுகொண்ட தெய்வங்கள் உதவுகின்றன. எனவே நானும் அத்தெய்வங்களுக்குப் பலியிட்டால் அத்தெய்வங்கள் எனக்கும் உதவும்” என்று எண்ணினான். ஆகாஸ் அத்தெய்வங்களைத் தொழுதுகொண்டான். இவ்வாறு இவன் தானும் பாவம் செய்து இஸ்ரவேல் ஜனங்களையும் பாவம் செய்யவைத்தான்.
