But he slew not their children, but did as it is written in the law in the book of Moses, where the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers, but every man shall die for his own sin.

ஆனாலும் பிள்ளைகளினாலே தகப்பன்களும், தகப்பன்களினாலே பிள்ளைகளும் கொலைசெய்யப்படாமல், அவனவன் செய்த பாவத்தினாலே அவனவன் கொலைசெய்யப்படவேண்டுமென்று மோசேயின் நியாயப்பிரமாண புத்தகத்தில் கர்த்தர் கட்டளையிட்டபிரகாரம் எழுதியிருக்கிறபடி, அவர்களுடைய பிள்ளைகளை அவன் கொலைசெய்யாதிருந்தான்.

ஆனால் அவன் அந்த அதிகாரிகளின் பிள்ளைகளைக் கொல்லவில்லை. ஏனென்றால் மோசேயின் புத்தகத்தில் எழுதப்பட்ட சட்டங்களுக்கு அவன் அடிபணிந்தான். கர்த்தர், “பிள்ளைகளின் செயல்களுக்காகப் பெற்றோர்கள் கொல்லப்படக்கூடாது. பெற்றோர்கள் செய்த செயல்களுக்காகப் பிள்ளைகளும் கொல்லப்படக்கூடாது. ஒருவன் தான் செய்த பாவத்துக்காகமட்டுமே தண்டிக்கப்படவேண்டும்” என்று கட்டளையிட்டிருக்கிறார்.
