If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall implore for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them.

மனிதனுக்கு விரோதமாக மனிதன் பாவம்செய்தால், நியாயாதிபதிகள் அதைத் தீர்ப்பார்கள்; ஒருவன் கர்த்தருக்கு விரோதமாகப் பாவம்செய்தால், அவனுக்காக விண்ணப்பம் செய்கிறவன் யார் என்றான்; அவர்களோ தங்களுடைய தகப்பனுடைய சொல்லைக்கேட்காமல் போனார்கள்; அவர்களைக் கொலைசெய்வதற்கு கர்த்தர் சித்தமாக இருந்தார்.

ஒருவன் இன்னொருவனுக்கு எதிராகப் பாவம் செய்தால் தேவன் அவனுக்கு உதவலாம். ஆனால் ஒருவன் கர்த்தருக்கு எதிராகப் பாவம் செய்தால், யார் அவனுக்கு உதவமுடியும்?” என்று கேட்டான். ஆனால் ஏலியின் மகன்கள் அவன் கூறியதைக் கேட்க மறுத்துவிட்டனர். எனவே ஏலியின் பிள்ளைகளைக் கொல்ல கர்த்தர் தீர்மானித்தார்.
