দুজনের মধ্যে য়ে মেয়ে বড় সে একদিন ছোট বোনকে বলল, “পৃথিবীতে সর্বত্র স্ত্রী ও পুরুষ বিয়ে করে এবং তাদের সন্তানাদি হয়| কিন্তু আমাদের পিতা বৃদ্ধ হয়েছেন এবং আমাদের সন্তানাদি দিতে পারে এমন অন্য পুরুষ এখানে নেই|

সারী অব্রামকে বললেন, “প্রভু আমায় সন্তান ধারণের ক্ষমতা দেন নি| তাই তুমি আমার দাসী হাগারের কাছে যাও| আমাকে একটি সন্তান দাও এবং আমি সেই সন্তানকে নিজের বলে গ্রহণ করবো|”অব্রাম সারীর নির্দেশ অনুসরণ করলেন|

তামর বিধবা বলে য়ে কাপড় পরত তা খুলে ফেলে অন্য কাপড় পরল ও তার মুখ ওড়না দিয়ে ঢাকল| তারপর সে তিম্নার কাছে অবস্থিত ঐনযিম শহরের দিকে য়ে রাস্তা চলে গেছে তার ধারে বসল| তামর জানত য়ে যিহূদার ছোট পুত্র শেলা এখন বড় হয়েছে কিন্তু তবু শেলার সাথে তার বিয়ে দেবার কোন পরিকল্পনাই যিহূদা করে নি|
Genesis 38:8
তখন যিহূদা এরের ভাই ওননকে বলল, “যাও তোমার মৃত ভাইয়ের স্ত্রীর সঙ্গে শয়ন কর| তার স্বামী হও| নিজের ভাই এরের জন্য বংশ উত্পন্ন কর|”

অব্রাহাম সদোম এবং ঘমোরার দিকে তাকিযে দেখলেন| সমগ্র উপত্যকার ওপর দৃষ্টিপাত করে অব্রাহাম দেখলেন য়ে সমস্ত উপত্যকা থেকে ধোঁযা উঠছে| দেখে মনে হল বিশাল অগ্নিকাণ্ডের ফলস্বরূপ ঐ ধোঁযা|
