তখন রাজা গিয়ে নগরীর প্রবেশ পথে বসলেন| রাজা যে নগরদ্বারের বাইরে এসেছেন এই খবর ছড়িয়ে পড়ল| তাই লোকরা তাঁর সঙ্গে দেখা করতে এল|ইস্রায়েলীয়রা যারা অবশালোমকে অনুসরণ করছিল তারা সকলে দৌড়ে পালিয়ে যে যার বাড়ী চলে গেল|

অবশালোম প্রতিদিন সকালে খুব ভোরে উঠে ফটকের কাছেএসে দাঁড়াত| অবশালোম এমন একজনকে খুঁজত যে তার সমস্যা নিয়ে বিচারের জন্য রাজা দায়ূদের কাছে যাচ্ছে| অবশালোম তার সঙ্গে কথা বলত| অবশালোম বলত, “কোন শহর থেকে তুমি আসছ?” লোকটা হয়তো বলত, “আমি ইস্রায়েলের অমূক পরিবারগোষ্ঠীর অমূক পরিবারের লোক|”

অবশালোমের পক্ষের ইস্রায়েলীয়দের বিরুদ্ধে লড়াই করার জন্য দায়ূদের সৈন্যরা যুদ্ধক্ষেত্রে রওনা হল| তারা ইফ্রয়িমের অরণ্যে যুদ্ধ করল|

তারপর য়োয়াবের লোকরা অবশালোমের দেহটি জঙ্গলের খাদে ফেলে দিল| সেই খাদটি তারা বড় বড় পাথর দিয়ে বুজিযে দিল|সব ইস্রায়েলীয় যারা অবশালোমকে অনুসরণ করছিল তারা পালিয়ে গিয়ে যে যার বাড়ী চলে গেল|

লোকরা বিমর্ষ হয়ে সেই শহরে এল| তারা যুদ্ধে যারা পরাজিত হয়েছে এবং লজ্জায যারা ছুটে পালিয়ে গেছে সেই লোকদের মত ব্যবহার করল|
