মাঠটা ছিল বৈত্-শেমশের বাসিন্দা য়িহোশূযের| সেই মাঠের ওপর একটা বড় পাথরের কাছে এসে গাড়ীটা থামল| বৈত্-শেমশের লোকরা গরুর গাড়ী থেকে গাড়ীটা আলাদা করে গাভী দুটোকে মেরে ফেলল এবং সেগুলো তারা প্রভুর কাছে নিবেদন করল|

এলিয় তখন সমস্ত লোকদের বললেন, “এবার আমার কাছে এসো|” সকলে এলিয়কে ঘিরে দাঁড়ালে, এলিয় প্রথমে প্রভুর ভেঙ্গে যাওয়া বেদীটিকে ঠিক করলেন|

তারপর দায়ূদ প্রভুর উদ্দেশ্যে সেখানে এক বেদী নির্মাণ করলেন| তিনি তার ওপরে হোমবলি এবং মঙ্গলার্থক বলি উত্সর্গ করলেন| সারা দেশের জন্য দায়ূদের প্রার্থনায প্রভু সাড়া দিলেন| প্রভু সেই মহামারীকে ইস্রায়েলে থামিয়ে দিলেন|

সেই দিন গাদ দায়ূদের কাছে এল| গাদ দায়ূদকে বলল, “যাও, যিবূষীয় অরৌণার শস্য মাড়ানোর জমিতে প্রভুর জন্য একটি বেদী তৈরী কর|”

সে বলেছিল, ‘আমি যাব, তুমি অনুমতি দাও| বৈত্লেহেমে আমার বাড়ির সকলে য়জ্ঞে বলি দেবে| আমার ভাই যেতে বলেছে| আমি যদি তোমার বন্ধু হই তাহলে আমাকে তুমি যেতে দাও, ভাইদের সঙ্গে দেখা হবে|’ তাই ও রাজার টেবিলে খেতে আসে নি|”

শমূয়েল একটা মেষশাবক নিয়ে এল| প্রভুকে সে এই মেষটি একটি সম্পূর্ণ হোমবলি হিসাবে নিবেদন করল| ইস্রায়েলের জন্য শমূয়েল প্রভুর কাছে প্রার্থনা করতে লাগল| প্রভু সেই প্রার্থনায সাড়া দিলেন|
