রাজাবলি ১ 17
1 গিলিয়দের তিশ্বী শহরে এলিয় নামে এক ভাববাদী বাস করতেন| তিনি রাজা আহাবকে বললেন, “আমি ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর, প্রভুর সেবক| আমি সেই প্রভুর নামে অভিশাপ দিলাম আগামী কয়েক বছর বৃষ্টিপাত তো দূরের কথা, এদেশে এক ফোঁটা শিশির পর্য়ন্ত আর পড়বে না| এক মাত্র আমি নির্দেশ দিলেই আবার বৃষ্টিপাত হবে|”
2 প্রভু তখন এলিয়কে সে জায়গা
3 ছেড়ে যর্দন নদীর পূর্ব দিকে করীত্ খাঁড়ির কাছে লুকিয়ে থাকতে বললেন|
4 তিনি এলিয়কে জানান য়ে তিনি কাক ও শকুনিদের রোজ তাঁর জন্য সেখানে খাবার এনে দেবার নির্দেশ দিয়েছেন এবং তৃষ্ণা পেলে এলিয় করীতের জলধারা থেকে জলপানও করতে পারবেন|
5 প্রভুর নির্দেশ মতো এলিয় তখন য়র্দনের পূর্বদিকে করীত্ খাঁড়ির কাছে বাস করতে গেলেন|
6 প্রতিদিন সকালে ও বিকেলে কাক ও শকুনিরা এলিয়কে খাবার এনে দিত আর তৃষ্ণা পেলে তিনি করীতের স্রোত থেকে জল পান করতেন|
7 কিন্তু অনাবৃষ্টির দরুণ করীতের জলধারা শুকিয়ে গেল|
8 তখন প্রভু এলিয়কে
9 সীদোনের সারিফতে যাওয়ার নির্দেশ দিলেন| তিনি বললেন, “সেখানে এক বিধবা রমণী বাস করে| আমি তাঁকে তোমার খাবারের ব্যবস্থা করতে নির্দেশ দিয়েছি|”
10 এলিয় তখন সারিফত নগরের দরজার কাছে গিয়ে এক বিধবা মহিলাকে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকতে দেখতে পেলেন| সে আগুন জ্বালানোর জন্য কাঠ জড়ো করছিল| এলিয় তাঁকে বললেন, “আমায় একটু খাবার জল এনে দিতে পারো?”
11 সেই মহিলা জল আনতে যাবার সময় এলিয় আবার তাকে অনুরোধ করলেন, “দয়া করে আমার খাবার জন্য এক টুকরো রুটি এনো|”
12 কিন্তু সেই মহিলা উত্তর দিলেন, “আমি তোমার প্রভু ঈশ্বরের সামনে দিব্য়ি খেযে বলছি, আমার ঘরে রুটি নেই| শুধু বযামে অল্প একটু মযদা আর শিশিতে অল্প খানিক তেল রাখা আছে| আমি এখানে কাঠ কুড়োতে এসেছিলাম| আমি এই কাঠ বাড়ীতে বয়ে নিয়ে যাবো এবং আগুন বালিয়ে রুটি সেঁকব এবং আমার পুত্র ও আমি আমাদের শেষ আহার করব এবং তারপর খিদের জ্বালায মরে যাবো|”
13 এলিয় সেই মহিলাকে বললেন, “কোনো চিন্তা কোরো না| কথা মতো বাড়ি গিয়ে রান্না চড়াও| কিন্তু তার আগে ঐ মযদা থেকে ছোট্ট একটা রুটি বানিয়ে আমার জন্য নিয়ে এসো| তারপর তুমি তোমার আর তোমার পুত্রের জন্য রান্না করো|
14 ইস্রায়েলের প্রভু ঈশ্বর বললেন, ‘ঐ মযদার কৌটো কখনও শূন্য হবে না| যত দিন না প্রভু এ দেশে বৃষ্টি পাঠাচ্ছেন তত দিন পর্য়ন্ত ঐ শিশির তেলও আর কমবে না|”‘
15 তখন ঐ মহিলা বাড়ি ফিরে গিয়ে এলিয়র কথা মতো কাজ করল| এলিয়, ঐ মহিলাটি এবং তার পুত্র বহু দিনের জন্য য়থেষ্ট খাদ্য পেয়েছিল|
16 প্রভু এলিয়কে যা ভাববাণী করেছিলেন, সেই কথা মতোই ঐ মযদার বযাম ও তেলের শিশি কখনও শূন্য হয় নি|
17 কিছু দিন পরে মহিলার পুত্র খুবই অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়ে| শেষে এক সময় তার নিঃশ্বাস বন্ধ হয়ে গেলে
18 মহিলা এলিয়কে এসে বলল, “আপনি ঈশ্বরের লোক, আপনি কি আমায় সাহায্য করতে পারবেন? নাকি আপনি এখানে এসে কেবল আমাকে আমার পাপের কথা মনে করিযে দিয়ে আমার পুত্রকে মৃত্যুর দিকে ঠেলে দেবেন?”
19 এলিয় তাকে বললেন, “তোমার পুত্রকে আমার কাছে এনে দাও|” তারপর এলিয় পুত্রটিকে ওপরে নিয়ে গিয়ে য়ে ঘরে তিনি থাকতেন তার নিজের খাটে শুইযে দিলেন|
20 তারপর এলিয় প্রভুর কাছে প্রার্থনা করে বললেন, “প্রভু, আমার ঈশ্বর, এই বিধবা রমণী আমাকে তার বাড়িতে আশ্রয় দিয়েছে| আপনি কি তার প্রতি এই অনাচার করবেন? আপনি কি তার পুত্রকে মারা য়েতে দেবেন?”
21 তারপর এলিয় পর পর তিন বার সেই ছেলেটার ওপর শুয়ে প্রার্থনা করে বললেন, “প্রভু, আমার ঈশ্বর, এই ছেলেটাকে পুনর্জীবিত করুন|”
22 প্রভু এলিয়র ডাকে সাড়া দিলেন| ছেলেটি বেঁচে উঠল এবং আবার স্বাভাবিক ভাবে শ্বাস-প্রশ্বাস নিতে শুরু করল|
23 এলিয় তখন ছেলেটিকে নীচের তলায় নিয়ে গিয়ে তার মায়ের হাতে তুলে দিয়ে বললেন, “দেখো, তোমার পুত্র বেঁচেই আছে!”
24 সেই মহিলা তখন বলল, “এবার আমার সত্যি সত্যি বিশ্বাস হল য়ে আপনি ঈশ্বরের লোক! প্রভু সত্যিই আপনার মুখ দিয়ে কথা বলেন!”
1 And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
2 And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
3 Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
4 And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.
5 So he went and did according unto the word of the Lord: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
6 And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.
7 And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.
8 And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.
10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.
12 And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.
14 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.
15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.
16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Elijah.
17 And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.
18 And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?
19 And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.
20 And he cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?
21 And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again.
22 And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.
23 And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.
24 And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in thy mouth is truth.
Proverbs 29 in Tamil and English
1 यदि एकजना मानिस जसलाई प्रायः हप्काइन्छ तर ऊ अट्टेरी गर्छ भने उसको एक्कासी विनाश हुनेछ उसको लागि आशा हुँदैन।
He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
2 जब धर्मी मानिसहरू सत्तामा आउँछन् राज्य खुशी बन्छन् तर जब दुष्ट मानिस शासक बन्छ तब सबै मानिसहरू दुःखीत हुन्छन्।
When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
3 यदि कुनै मानिसले ज्ञानलाई प्रेम गर्छ भने, उसको बाबु खुशी हुन्छन, तर वेश्याहरूको साथीले आफ्नो सम्पत्ति बरबाद गर्छ।
Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.
4 एकजना राजाले आफ्नो राज्यलाई न्याय द्वारा बलियो राख्छ, तर घूस लिने मानिसले यसलाई सर्वनाश पार्छ।
The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.
5 जसले आफ्नो मित्र सित तेल घस्छ भने उसले आफ्नै खुट्टामा जाल फिंजाउँछ।
A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his feet.
6 पापीजनहरू स्वयं आफ्नो जालमा फस्छन् तर धर्मी जनहरू गीत गाउँछन् अनि खुशी रहन्छन्।
In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.
7 धर्मी मानिसहरूले बुझ्छन् कि गरीबले न्याय पाउँनुपर्छ। तर दुष्ट मानिसले गरीबको विषयमा चिन्ता नै गर्दैन।
The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it.
8 जसले आफैंलाई अरू भन्दा असल हुँ भन्ने सोच्छ त्यसले सारा शहर नै अस्त-व्यस्त पारिदिन्छ। तर बुद्धिमान मानिसहरूले जलि रहेको क्रोधालाई शान्त बनाउँछन्।
Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath.
9 बुद्धिमान मानिस जब मूर्खसित झगडा गर्छ तब मूर्खले तर्क गर्छ र मूर्खतापूर्वक बोल्छ त्यो बहसको कहिल्यै समाधान हुने छैन।
If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.
10 हत्यागर्ने मानिसले ईमानदारी मानिसलाई घृणा गर्छ, र उसलाई मार्न चाहान्छ।
The bloodthirsty hate the upright: but the just seek his soul.
11 मूर्ख मानिसले आफ्नो रिस थाम्दैन। तर बुद्धिमानी मानिसले आफ्नो रिसलाई नियन्त्रणमा राख्छ।
A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.
12 यदि एकजना शासकले झूटो कुरामा ध्यान दियो भने उसका सबै सेवकहरू भ्रष्ट हुन्छन्।
If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked.
13 गरीब मानिस र अत्याचारीले महसूस गर्नै पर्छ कि ती दुबै बराबर हुन कारण दुबैलाई परमप्रभुले नै सृष्टि गर्नुभएको हो।
The poor and the deceitful man meet together: the Lord lighteneth both their eyes.
14 यदि कुनै राजाले गरीबहरूलाई न्यायपूर्वक हेरचाह गर्छन् भने, उनको शासन दीर्घकाल सुरक्षित रहनेछ।
The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.
15 दण्ड अनि शिक्षाहरूले ज्ञानतिर डोर्याउँछ, तर एकजना छाडा छोडिएको छोरा आमाको लाज बन्छ।
The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
16 खराब मानिसले राष्ट्रलाई शासन गर्छन भने पाप र अपराध बढदो हुनेछ तर आखिरमा धर्मीले दुष्टहरूको पतन देख्नेछन् र त्यस पछि तिनीहरूले विजय प्राप्त गर्नेछन्।
When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall.
17 तिम्रो छोरालाई शिक्षा देऊ अनि उसले तिमीमा शान्ति ल्याउँछ; उसले तिम्रो आत्मामा खुशी ल्याउनेछ।
Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.
18 जब दर्शन-प्रकाश हुँदैन मानिसहरू मनमानि गर्छन जो न्यायोचित भइरहन्छ उसले आशिष पाउँछ।
Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
19 कुराले मात्र नोकरलाई सुधार्न सकिँदैन, कुरा बुझिहाले पनि उसले त्यसलाई स्वीकार्दैन।
A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer.
20 नसोची बोल्ने कुनै मानिसलाई तिमी चिन्दछौ? त्यस्तो मानिस भन्दा मूर्खको धेरै आशा गर्न सकिन्छ।
Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
21 यदि तिमीले आफ्नो दासले जो माग्छ सो सधैं दिने गर्यो भने एकदिन यस्तो हुन्छ त्यो तिम्रो दास भएर रहँदैन।
He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become his son at the length.
22 क्रोधी मानिसले धेरै विवाद उठाउछ अनि क्रोध धेरै हुने मानिस धेरै पापहरूको अपराधी हुन्छ।
An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
23 मानिसलाई अहंकारले होच्याउँछ, तर नम्र आत्मा भएको मानिसले सम्मान पाउँछ।
A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
24 चोरको साथी ऊ आफ्नै शत्रु हो, जब उसले शपथ खानु पर्छ तब ऊ साक्षी बस्न धेरै डराउँछ।
Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not.
25 अरू मानिसहरूसँगको डर एउटा पासो झैं हो, यदि तिमीले परमप्रभुमाथि भरोसा गर्छौ भने, तिमी सुरक्षित रहनेछौ।
The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.
26 धेरै मानिसहरूले न्याय पाउनको लागि शासकलाई हेर्न खोज्छन्, तर मानिसको इन्साफ परमप्रभुबाट मात्र आउँछ।
Many seek the ruler’s favour; but every man’s judgment cometh from the Lord.
27 धर्मी मानिसहरूले बेईमानहरूलाई घृणा गर्छन्, फेरि बेईमान मानिसहरूले ईमानदार मानिसलाई घृणा गर्छन्।
An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.
