তখন পৌল অননিয়কে বললেন, ‘হে চুনকাম করা প্রাচীর! স্বয়ং ঈশ্বর তোমায় আঘাত করবেন৷ আইনসঙ্গত ভাবে আমার বিচার করার জন্য তুমি এখানে বসেছ; আর আমাকে আঘাত করার হুকুম দিয়ে তুমি মোশির বিধি-ব্যবস্থার বিরুদ্ধে যাচ্ছ৷’
