அவரைக் கட்டி, கொண்டுபோய், தேசாதிபதியாகிய பொந்தியு பிலாத்துவினிடத்தில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்கள்.

ஆகையால், என் இடுப்பு மகாவேதனையால் நிறைந்திருக்கிறது; பிள்ளைபெறுகிறவளின் வேதனைகளுக்கு ஒத்த வேதனைகள் என்னைப் பிடித்தது; கேட்டதினால் உளைச்சல்கொண்டு, கண்டதினால் கலங்கினேன்.

அந்தப் பயங்கரமானவற்றை நான் பார்த்தேன். இப்பொழுது நான் பயப்படுகிறேன். பயத்தால் என் வயிறு பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. அந்த வலியானது பிரசவ வலி போன்றுள்ளது. நான் கேள்விப்பட்ட செய்திகள் எல்லாம் என்னை அச்சம்கொள்ளச் செய்கிறது. நான் பார்த்தவை எல்லாம் என்னைப் பயத்தால் நடுங்கச் செய்கிறது.
